Port Authority
Wherever you may have gone in the Atlantic Provinces, if you have ever been aboard a fishing vessel or a pleasure boat, or if you’ve cast a fishing line from a pier, chances are you have used an installation that is managed by a local port authority. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) port authority program was established to favor local port autonomy throughout the country. Under DFO’s Small Craft Harbors, the program was created to give more authority and control of their daily operations, at the local level.
In Richibucto, the wharf is situated in the heart of downtown, making it quite attractive to visitors. There have been many major investments made over the past few years, in order to increase commercial fleet capacity. Today, there are approximately 100 commercial boats that fish mainly lobster. The port authority also manages the space occupied by the Richibucto Marina, which holds about sixty recreational crafts.
